I know you know I love pancakes (look for my recipe for pancakes in the archives), so this morning Don and I went to the annual Mennonite Relief Sale & Pancake Breakfast. Yum! It was so good. Scrambled eggs, fresh homemade breakfast sausage, pancakes with applesauce. And…while we were waiting in line, fresh raised doughnuts, just like my Great-Grandma Martin made (except she used to shake them in a bag of sugar, and these were lightly glazed).

Here’s a picture of my Great-Grandma Martin:

I was named after my great grandmother, Lois Esma Duckworth Martin

My sister Judy would have looked exactly like her if Judy had lived to be old! Judy passed away from small-cell lung cancer (yes, she was a smoker) in 2007. Grandma Martin, coincidentally, also died of lung cancer, but she was 79 and she never smoked. I cannot seem to find a digital photo of Judy right now; when I find one, I’ll come back and add it.

About Lois

My husband, Don Crawford, and I love to cook. For me, it's more about eating delicious food than the actual cooking. I like to cook mostly because I like to eat, and I like the proud sense of accomplishment when the food I make is appreciated by others. For Don, it's all about presentation. So we make a good team. I'm too impatient to create beautiful presentations (usually), but he sweeps in and takes over so it all turns out great. All our recipes are tried and true!
